Community Vigil in Honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month
#Each1KnowsSome1
Rewire Community is proud to take a stand against domestic violence in solidarity with PFLAG SRV and Discovery Counseling Center.
Thank you to all who joined us to commemorate National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in this peaceful vigil. We met to honor the many stories and journeys of survivors, to thank advocates working tirelessly at the grassroots, to acknowledge the love each of us deserve, to create safe spaces for voices to be heard if they choose to speak. To break the silence.
Our gratitude to Mayor Dave Hudson, Councilmember Sridhar Verose, SRVUSD Board Trustee Laura Bratt, community member Rita Chakrabarti, poets Anita Mahajan and Kaavya, Rewire Team members Yamini Dixit, Megha Sharma and Meetu Arya, mental health professional Sangita Biswas and Co Director of Woman Inc, Mary Martinez - for speaking at the open mic.
And above all thanks to the village that gathered in support, to listen!

Afghan Refugee Relief Work
Rewire Community worked with organizations in the TriValley area to support Afghan refugee relief work. We ran an urgent drive to prepare family care kits for 25 incoming families, packing over a weekend and delivering all kits in a few days. This was in support of relief work being done by the IRC (International Rescue Committee). Donations could be made in-kind (by emailing admin@rewirecommunity.org) or to Rewire paypal ($90 supported essentials for one family).
We thank all community members who leaned in to contribute supplies for the care packages. Gratitude to all supporting, including Dr Anu Sharma of Dental Comfort for donating much needed hand sanitizers and volunteers of Bay Area Cotton Masks for their generous donation of over 190 beautiful handmade cotton masks.
Together we create waves of change.

Back to School
Rewire Community offered a virtual workshop to learn about the most recent information about risk factors for sexual harm on college campuses and the strategies for both preventing and responding to sexual violence in higher education. This workshop aimed to leave students, parents and families with the practical tools they need to support survivors and a deeper understanding of the complex reality of campus sexual violence today. The conversation was to create safer, healthier campuses.
Presenter: Lorraine Holmes, Crisis Counseling Facilitator, BAWAR
Note: No fee for the workshop. A donation of $10 is welcome. All proceeds support BAWAR (Bay Area Women Against Rape)
We invite families and youth preparing to return to college (new or returning) to take time in their day to hear this conversation. What is sexual violence? What is the experience and impact on survivors? What resources exist? How can families prepare?
TW: mentions of sexual assault

IWD Pledge
Every year Rewire Community celebrates International Women's Day on March 8th! And this year, we celebrated virtually with the #ChooseToChallenge pledge.
Our heart is full from the words that poured in-- grateful and inspired! The day may be over, but our promise cannot be...the work does not stop.
We share the pledges here to a song in Hindi called “Bekhauff”, meaning “Fearless”. It speaks to womxn who have had to live in fear; it’s an ode to the strength each possesses and the undefinable courage that lives in all!
